REPORT: Quorn 2-2 Harborough Town

Rob O’Brien captured the best of the action including Ryan Beswick’s second half penalty

Quorn put in an extremely positive performance to come out with a 2-2 draw at home to National League North Harborough Town.

The Methodists twice took the lead against higher level opposition and will be extremely happy with how they competed throughout.

Finlay Tunstall and Musa Ceesay both started against Harborough with Jaiden Campbell-Ryce on the bench after all three were announced as Quorn players on Friday afternoon.

And it was Musa Ceesay who opened the scoring just 17 minutes into his debut for the club when he rose highest to head home a wicked Zak Goodson free kick.

Quorn took their lead into the interval and will be pleased with how they dominated the first half.

The second half saw a number of substitutes introduced to the game including new Harborough Town signing Britt Assombalonga. The former Nottingham Forest man recently signed with the club after a trial.

Just after the hour mark, the game was levelled through Riley O’Sullivan who reacted fastest in the box to turn the ball home and make it 1-1.

With ten minutes left on the clock, Quorn had the chance to take the lead again when they were given a penalty. Player-Manager Ryan Beswick stepped up to take it and he sent the keeper the wrong way to make it 2-1.

But the lead only lasted a couple of minutes. Former EFL striker, Britt Assombalonga scored a header from a corner to make it 2-2 and both sides will be fairly happy with what they saw on the pitch.

After the game Ryan Beswick acknowledged that it was much better than what his team had recently shown and that a change in approach earlier in the week was starting to come to fruition.

Attention now turns to Quorn’s final friendly of the summer, as they welcome Banbury United to Farley Way next Saturday with the start of the competitive season just two weeks away.
