NEWS: Quorn to Partner with ANDYSMANCLUB
Following the news of the tragic loss of David McDermott, a good friend of Player/Manager Ryan Beswick, Quorn Football Club have partnered with ANDYSMANCLUB. The charity will become the Reds’ partner for Ryan’s post-match interviews for the remainder of the season.
ANDYSMANCLUB takes its name from Andrew Roberts, a man who sadly took his own life aged 23 in early 2016. Andy’s family had no inkling that he was suffering or struggling to the extent that he would do this, and as a result looked deeper into male suicide and men’s mental health. They soon discovered that male suicide is the biggest killer of men under 54, with male mental health surrounded by well-ingrained cultural stigma in the UK.
Elaine Roberts and Luke Ambler, Andy’s Mum and Brother-in-Law, came up with the idea of ANDYSMANCLUB, a group where men aged 18 and above can speak openly about their mental health in a judgment-free, non-clinical environment.
Groups now operate nationwide and are completely volunteer-led, with all group facilitators having first interacted with ANDYSMANCLUB when they came through the door as a service user.
A spokesperson for the charity said “Our mission, put simply, is to prevent other families from going through the heartache and grief caused by suicide, by encouraging men to speak openly about their issues. We aim to achieve this through our Monday night talking groups, and through the power of awareness, sharing stories and sharing experiences.”
Quorn's Head of Media James Kendrick explained "We're delighted to be partnering with ANDYSMANCLUB, who will be partnering with our interviews with manager Ryan Beswick for the rest of this season. Mental health, and in particular men’s mental health, isn’t talked about enough and we all need to do what we can to highlight the issue more. People will have seen the reaction we had to one of our recent interviews with Ryan, which touched upon this subject, and we want everyone to know that there is help available if they need it, and that you don't have to suffer on your own."
