REPORT: Kettering Town 2-0 Quorn
Quorn are out of the FA Cup after losing 2-0 away at fellow Step Three side Kettering Town.
Two second half goals from the home side separated the two sides on the day but Quorn will feel that they should have come away with a result.
Before the game, Quorn announced the signing of former Coalville and Rushall Olympic forward Terell Pennant and he was on the bench for this FA Cup game.
For the first time in three games, Quorn didn’t take the lead inside the first minute but they did start brightly and Luke Shaw called the Kettering keeper into action inside the opening ten minutes.
Midway through the first half Quorn came close to opening the scoring through Jesse Friend who aimed a curling effort at goal from the edge of the area but it hit the post and bounced out.
As can often be the case in front of large home crowds, the home side often got the run of the green with refereeing decisions and they were awarded a penalty ten minutes before the break.
But Quorn goalkeeper Jake Laban was more than equal to Michael Gyasi’s penalty to ensure both sides went in level at the break.
In the second half, Quorn continued their habit of starting halves well and once again looked the most likely team to score.
Ryan Beswick had a couple of chances to put his side ahead including from a free kick given on the edge of the Kettering area for dissent.
Quorn had done well to restrict their hosts to very few chances throughout the game but it was always going to be difficult to hold the FA Cup’s all time leading goal scorers forever.
And midway through the second half, Michael Gyasi made up for his missed penalty as he placed a shot in the far corner to give Kettering the lead.
The goal meant Quorn had to come out even more and attack and while they pushed forward more and more, they couldn’t create the chance needed to equalise.
And deep into injury time with Quorn throwing everybody forward, Kettering were able to launch a counter attack and Theo Alexandrou made it 2-0.
Quorn’s attention now turns to the FA Trophy as they host Leamington at Farley Way on Saturday at 3pm.
