SQUAD NEWS: Cox In At Quorn
Quorn Football Club have confirmed their second summer signing as they prepare for life at step three. Long time target, defender Luke Cox, arrives from County rivals Shepshed Dynamo.
Player/Manager Ryan Beswick attempted to sign Cox when he left Mickleover early in the 2024/25 season, but Dynamo beat him to the punch. Luke made 32 appearances for the Dovecote based side, who the Reds will travel to in preseason.
Born and raised in Ilkeston, Cox played junior football for his local side before being scouted by Derby County at Under 12 level. After a good spell in the Rams Academy system, Luke moved to Sheffield Wednesday, where he received a scholarship and a pro contract.
After spending time in the Owls Under 21s, Luke made the move to Non-League, signing with fellow Southern League Premier Central side Redditch United. Moving closer to home Cox played a massive role in helping Long Eaton United gain promotion to step three as they won the playoffs in 2022/23. Since then, the imposing defender has had further spells in step three with Ilkeston and Mickleover.
Whilst studying for a degree in Sport and Exercise Science, Cox was called up for an England Universities Nations Cup match against Wales last summer. Now preparing for a master’s degree in Strength and Conditioning, Luke is excited for his next challenge. “You couldn’t help but be impressed by what the club achieved last season. I think that Ryan is building something special here and the lads I know speak very highly of him.”
“I wanted to return to step three football, and I believe that I can help the club have another successful season. There’s already a very good squad here, as they showed in winning the league, but I know that Ryan is busy looking at strengthening it further.”
