SQUAD NEWS: Big Ben Chimes In For Reds

Quorn Football Club have confirmed the signing of former Wycombe Wanderers defender Ben Kaninda.

Born and raised in Birmingham, Ben was scouted by, and signed for, West Bromwich Albion’s Academy at the age of 11. After five seasons at the Hawthorns, Kaninda moved on to Shrewsbury Town, where he stayed for another two seasons before signing with the Chairboys.

Kaninda made his professional debut at 18 for Wycombe, marshalling the defence in a 0-0 draw against Tottenham Hotspur’s Under 21s in the EFL Trophy. That side featured Premier League winger Romaine Mundle, who made 14 topflight appearances for the Black Cats last season. Wanderers Manager at the time Gareth Ainsworth told the Bucks Free Press that Kaninda  “Came straight in and did really well. He really put in a solid performance at the back, and I'm really pleased.”

Currently studying at Aston University for a degree in Business & Management, Ben is “just looking to enjoy football and play as many games as possible this season.” Asked about joining the Methodists, Kaninda explained “I could see straight away that it’s a good club, and I’d heard a lot of nice things previously as well. The Manager was very welcoming and it’s somewhere I think I can learn my trade. We obviously need to take each game as it comes, but, ultimately, we’re here to push for promotion and reach the highest levels possible.

Welcome to Farley Way Ben.
