SQAUD NEWS: Finlay Joins the Reds

Quorn Football Club have beaten the competition to the signing of Finlay Tunstall. The former Accrington Stanley youngster was in demand, with several clubs watching him in friendly action against Spalding United on Tuesday evening.

A proud Yorkshireman, Finlay began his football journey with local side Ossett Town. From there he was scouted by Sheffield Wednesday, spending six years in the Owls’ junior programme. At 16, Tunstall signed a two-year scholarship with Stanley, going on to earn a one-year professional contract.

Last season Tunstall had a loan spell with Marine, making appearances for the Merseyside based club in the National League North, but prior to that, the midfielder made his professional debut in the League Cup as Accrington beat Oldham Athletic 3-1 in the Preliminary Round. He also came off the bench in the 2-1 First Round win against Peterborough United and the Second Round defeat against Doncaster Rovers.

“The way the Manager wants to play both on and off the ball really suit me and it’s exactly how I want to play so I’m excited to get started” said Finlay, continuing “⁠I want to finish as high as possible in this league, but we’re under no illusion how difficult this season will be. I’m hopeful that I can get as many minutes as possible and contribute to a successful season.”
