REPORT: Quorn 4-2 Leamington

Quorn progressed into the First Round Proper of the FA Trophy with a 4-2 home victory against Leamington.

Despite falling behind, Quorn played exceptionally well to come back and win and they more than deserved the victory.

The result provides The Methodists with a much needed distraction from league action with them starting a cup run.

Just before kick off, Quorn presented Captain Mason Frizelle with a trophy marking his 100th appearance for the club.

The pattern of the game was established early on with both sides looking to attack from the start and both goalkeepers had to be alert.

Ryan Beswick forced an early save out of the Leamington keeper from a free kick before Terrell Pennant got in behind and did the same.

At the other end, Leamington had the ball in the net inside the first ten minutes but it was disallowed before a rebound off the post should have been converted but was spurned.

Quorn did fall behind midway through the first half courtesy of a strike from Callum Cockerill-Mollett.

However, Quorn didn’t let their heads drop and three goals in just over ten minutes for the home side sent them into the break ahead.

Elias Reaney equalised for Quorn with a thunderbolt of an effort, before a Ryan Beswick penalty and a Mason Frizelle tap in during injury time made it 3-1.

Leamington made the second half interesting when Chris Wreh halved the deficit four minutes into the second half.

However, they couldn’t find the equaliser and as the half wore on, Quorn took control and Theo Robinson put the game beyond doubt a few minutes before the end to ensure the game finished 4-2.

Quorn can now look forward to the draw for the next round with the tie set to take place on the weekend of the 24th October.
