REPORT: Quorn 2-2 Ashton United
By James Kendrick
Quorn came from 2 goals down to draw 2-2 with Ashton United on Tuesday night.
Despite the comeback, The Methodists will potentially feel hard done to that they didn’t win it late on.
The result sees Quorn remain outside of the relegation zone having only lost two of their last seven games.
The game started off as another open affair. Quorn looked good going forward but also relied on goalkeeper Jake Laban to make some early saves.
Jesse Friend and Terrell Pennant also look good going forward for Quorn and they looked threatening
However, just before the half hour mark, a deflected effort found the top corner to give Ashton United the lead.
Quorn almost hit back soon after as Terrell Pennant went on a solo run down the left and unleashed a shot that clipped the post and bounced away.
Despite being behind at the break Quorn came out full of confidence feeling that they could find a way back into the game.
And they started brightly with Mason Frizelle heading over after just a few minutes.
Quorn kept attacking but never really tested the Ashton United goalkeeper and they were hit with a sucker punch midway through the half as Jake Laban couldn’t keep out a shot from James Hardy and they doubled their lead.
However, the home side showed real strength of character as they grabbed a goal back just seven minutes later.
And just six minutes after that they were level when Freddie Cook met a superb Ryan Beswick set piece and headed home to make it 2-2.
After equalising it looked like only one team was going to go on and win with Ryan Beswick and Finlay Tunstall both having good chances in stoppage time but they couldn’t quite convert.
The comeback adds momentum to a Quorn side that is growing and improving every week and they welcome Workington on Saturday in a 450 mile round trip.
