REPORT: Quorn 2-1 Shepshed Dynamo

Quorn came out victorious in their Emirates FA Cup First Qualifying Round Derby game with Shepshed Dynamo.

On the pitch, the game was decided by a calamitous own goal when the game looked certain to be heading for a replay.

Off the pitch, Quorn were also celebrating a club record high attendance with 1004 fans coming through the turnstiles beating the clubs previous record of 757 set last year.

With some fans still queuing to get in at the turnstiles there was an electric start to the game on the pitch.

Having opened his account for the season on Monday, striker Jayden-Samuel Lawrence-Lowther opened the scoring for Quorn after just 55 seconds to give the Step 3 side the lead.

He was played through by Tim Berridge and found himself one-on-one with former Quorn goalkeeper Jake Williams and he finished well.

From early on, it was clear this was a proper cup tie. Both sides were well up for it and the contrast styles on show set the game up nicely.

And Shepshed ensured that the two sides went in at half time level through Taylor Wyse who scored a wonderful curling effort from the edge of the area.

The Step 4 will be left ruing what could have been as they dominated a lot of the second half and were probably the better side.

And Dynamo had a golden chance to win the tie with 10 minutes to go as a low ball was played across the box and Medrano had an empty net to score in but he couldn’t convert.

As can often be the case in football, you can be punished for not taking your chances and Quorn capitalised but they won the game in cruel fashion.

Shepshed had possession and defender Kelly Fombad played the ball back to goalkeeper Jake Williams who wasn’t where the defender thought he would be and the ball was passed back into an empty net to give Quorn a 2-1 win.

Celebrations for the goal were muted from the Quorn players and their bench but they will now doubt be delighted to have won their second game in five days and be in the hat for the next qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup.
