REPORT: Quorn 2-0 Bury Town

By James Kendrick

Goals in either half gave Quorn their third league win in a row with a 2-0 win at home to Bury Town.

Kai Fifield opened the scoring for The Methodists on the stroke of half time before Zak Goodson finished the game off with with 20 minutes to play.

The result sees Quorn jump up to third place in the Southern Premier League Central with a quarter of the season already completed.

Quorn came into the game on the back of a very positive 4-3 win away at Alvechurch and they started brightly with Simeon Cobourne forcing a save out of the Bury Town keeper in the first minute.

Quorn came closest to scoring in the first half but efforts from Finn O’Boyle and Fifield couldn’t find the target and Goodson’s effort clipped the crossbar before being cleared.

The game really struggled to get going in the opening stages with yellow cards dominating much of the first half with Goodson and Luke Cox both picking up bookings.

But the deadlock was broken as the game entered first half injury time. Kai Fifield, who was making his first start for Quorn after joining on loan from Kettering Town, found the bottom corner with a precise finish from the edge of the box.

One of the biggest stories of the game was the return of Quorn goalkeeper Tom Allsopp who returned to the starting line up for the first time since his injury that saw his side’s FA Cup tie with Enfield Town abandoned.

And he was forced into three good saves inside the first five minutes of the second half as Bury Town came out fighting.

But Bury Town struggled to keep that up momentum up for long and the game started petering out.

And with just under 20 minutes left to play, Quorn finished the game off with Zak Goodson scoring his second goal in as many games with a close range finish to give Quorn all three points.

Three league wins in a row gives Quorn some real momentum going into a big game on Tuesday night at home to Halesowen Town and they will be looking to keep their good run of form going.
