REPORT: Quorn 1-1 Redcar Athletic

Man of the Match Madou Cisse took on his opponent at every opportunity.

Quorn earned their first point of the season with a 1-1 draw at home to Redcar Athletic.

After a cagey first half, Quorn took the lead through captain Mason Frizelle but couldn’t hold on for the win as Adam Boyes equalised eight minutes later.

The result gives The Methodists a lift after a disappointing start to the season and will give them confidence going forward into another busy period.

The home side came into the game on the back of a heavy 5-0 home defeat on Tuesday but showed real strength of character to bounce back against a Redcar side who had won one and drawn the other of their first two games.

The first half was a cagey affair with Redcar starting brighter and looking to dominate the game from the off.

The home side were also forced into an early substitution as Billy Kee had to be replaced after 20 minutes.

But for all Redcar’s dominance they struggled to force debutant goalkeeper Jake Laban into a save and as the half wore on, Quorn grew into it and started to have chances of their own.

Ryan Beswick tested the Redcar keeper from a free kick just outside the box as well as flashing a shot just wide.

Quorn came out in the second half the brighter side as well and had the best chances.

15 minutes into the second half Quorn were forced into another change due to injury as Mussa Ceesay was replaced by Jaiden Owen.

Quorn started to mount some serious pressure on the Redcar goal midway through the second half as striker Jayden-Samuel Lawrence-Lowther was played through on goal but was denied by the goalkeeper and then Madou Cisse put the rebound narrowly wide.

With 16 minutes to play, Quorn’s pressure paid off as Mason Frizelle rose highest to head home a corner at the back post and give Quorn the lead.

But just eight minutes later Redcar levelled the game through Adam Boyes with around eight minutes plus stoppage time left to play.

Both sides looked like they wanted to go and try and get the winner but Quorn’s job was made all the harder a couple of minutes from time when the referee showed striker Jayden-Samuel Lawrence-Lowther a second yellow card and sent him off but Quorn saw the game out and took the point.

With the league table still in its infancy, where you currently place in it doesn’t really matter but Quorn will be buoyed by getting on the board with five games left to play still in August.
