REPORT: Quorn 1-0 Bishop’s Stortford

By James Kendrick

A last minute winner from Zak Goodson earned ten man Quorn all three points at home to Bishop’s Stortford.

It was a game full of chances despite the scoreline and both sides will feel they could have comfortably won the game.

The first half was wide open and both goalkeepers made good saves to keep the score level at the break.

Onyeagwara and Cole Da Silva came closest to finding the net for the visitors while Quorn got into a number of good positions with their final ball or effort letting them down.

In the second half, Quorn dominated the game and they had the ball in the back of the net on the hour mark after Simeon Cobourne’s shot hit the bar and the rebound fell to Zak Goodson who headed home but the flag was up for offside.

Quorn striker Jacob Fenton will also be rueing his missed opportunities after he missed two good chances, one of which was an open goal.

Despite their domination, the home side must have thought it wasn’t going to be their day especially when they were reduced to ten men just 9 minutes before the end.

Player-Manager Ryan Beswick made a tackle on the edge of the centre circle that was adjudged to be a red and he was sent off.

But Quorn kept pushing and they got their reward one minute from time when Zak Goodson won the ball on the right, drove into the box and finished well to win the game and help Quorn reach their 50 point mark which was their aim at the beginning of the season.
