REPORT: Quorn 0-5 Cleethorpes Town

Quorn fell to a 5-0 defeat to Cleethorpes Town at Farley Way in their first home league game of the season.

The home side trailed 1-0 at the break but in the second half Cleethorpes showed their clinical side and scored four more times to give the scoreline a more domineering feeling.

The result sees Quorn still searching for their first point of the season as they move onto Redcar Athletic at home on Saturday.

Before the game, Quorn announced the signing of Jake Laban on a season-long loan. The goalkeeper linked up with the squad ahead of the game and was named on the substitute bench against Cleethorpes.

The Methodists started with a clear game plan to utilise the strengths of striker Jayden-Samuel Lawrence-Lowther and he looked lively up front.

But they fell behind after 15 minutes when Callum Ainley pounced in the box to put the away side ahead.

Ten minutes later they had the ball in the back of the net again but the referee ruled it out.

One of the few bright sparks for Quorn in this one was Madou Cisse who looked lively off the left and tried to cut inside and get a shot away on a couple of occasions.

Other than that in the first half, it was all Cleethorpes and they will feel like they could have been further ahead at half time.

However, in the second half Cleethorpes showed their clinical side scoring four times to put the icing on the cake.

The rout started four minutes after the break with another one just ten minutes later. The goal glut finished with a goal 15 minutes before the full time whistle and then one in stoppage time.

The result is not how Quorn will have wanted their first ever game in this league to go but they have to get back on the horse quickly as they host Redcar Athletic on Saturday.
