REPORT: Avro 2-1 Quorn

Quorn celebrate after Ethan Bojang gives them the lead midway through the first half.

Quorn fell to a 2-1 defeat at Avro on the opening day of the Northern Premier League.

The Methodists did take the lead midway through the first half through debutant Ethan Bojang but two second half goals from the home side won them the game.

After an enforced squad overhaul in the summer, Quorn’s starting 11 saw six debutants named with all five substitutes debutants as well.

Avro started on the front foot and dominated the ball in the first half but they failed to create many clear cut chances to trouble Jake Williams in the Quorn goal.

As the half grew on, Quorn grew into it and had the better chances. Luke Cox could have put the away side ahead after nine minutes after a long throw bounced around the box but the keeper saved it.

Midway through the first half Quorn did put themselves ahead through debutant Ethan Bojang. Zak Goodson and Ryan Beswick linked up well down the right and Goodson delivered a low cross into Bojang who fired home.

The players came out for the second half and the game could have been so different if Quorn had taken their chance just two minutes into the second half as both Goodson and Billy Kee had chances to score but couldn’t.

If Avro got one they were always going to have the momentum and that moment came just before the hour mark when an individual error allowed Jack Atkinson to shoot from range and find the net.

Quorn did well to hold Avro off for the majority of the rest of the game but their job was made much harder when the referee gave Avro a penalty.

David Fitzpatrick stepped up and sent Jake Williams the wrong way to make it 2-1.

After gaining the lead Avro managed the game really well and managed to restrict Quorn to minimal possession or chances and the game finished 2-1.

Quorn move straight onto their first home game of the season on Tuesday as they host Cleethorpes Town.
