PREVIEW: Tamworth (H)
Quorn hope to continue their winning ways in as they face Tamworth in their first home game of the pre-season campaign.
Returning to The Sotto Stadium, the reds take on Tamworth FC in their second pre – season fixture. Following a comfortable 2-0 win against Newark and Sherwood United on Saturday, head coach Ryan Beswick will hope his team continue in the same manor against a tougher opposition in Tamworth.
The QFC boss has highlighted the challenge the team face on Tuesday saying, ‘it’ll be a tough test’. However, the fixture will be viewed as a good chance for the squad to get some more minutes in their legs as they prepare for the new season. After not playing a game for a few months, the Reds are getting back up to speed with three games within the space of a week.
The Opposition:
After a 10th place finish in the National League, Tamworth makes the trip to The Sotto Stadium this Tuesday. The Lambs faced Lichfield City on Saturday, beating them 1-0 away from home.
A mid table finish in the league last year was a good campaign for head coach Andy Peaks’ side, however the club also experienced success in the FA Cup. The first-round fixture saw the Lambs pick up an inspiring 1-0 win against League One Huddersfield Town thanks to an own goal from keeper Chris Maxwell.
Taking on Burton Albion in the next round, the National League side hoped to repeat their classy display from the first round. After conceding a low driven effort from substitute Mason Bennett, Tamworth’s campaign looked to be over. However, a back post run from Ronon Maher saw the Lambs draw level, keeping their FA Cup dreams alive. They went on to beat the Brewers 4-3 on penalties, progressing to the 3rd round of the competition, where they would face Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur.
After reaching the 3rd round of the FA Cup, their fairy tale run came to an end as Spurs won 3-0 in extra time at The Lamb Ground.
Tamworth will no doubt be a tough test for the Reds, but the fixture poses to be a great opportunity for Beswick’s side to experience tough opposition as they prepare for life in step three.
Last Game for The Reds:
Goals from Billy Kee and Oscar Marshall saw QFC win their first pre-season fixture of the campaign 2-0 against Newark and Sherwood United. New signings Cieron Keane and Luke Cox started the game, with Deen Master, Joe Lyne and Simeon Cobourne coming on at half time.
Ryan Beswick said in a post-match interview “they played well, they moved the ball and that’s what was good for us because we got to implement some of the stuff, we do off the ball which was nice”. Saturdays game proved to be a great start to preparations for the new season as the squad regains fitness and get ready for the challenges this upcoming season holds.
Head-to-Head:
In the only previous meeting between the two sides, Tamworth won a preseason friendly 3-0 at Farley Way in 2023.
The Reds boss Ryan Beswick is certainly familiar with the opposition as he poked some fun at goalkeeper Jas Singh saying, “I know that when we get in their half, and we shoot and hit the ball on target it will probably go in because their keeper’s a bit flappy”. The head coach will be hoping his players have their shooting boots on, on Tuesday night.
