REPORT: Shepshed Dynamo 1-2 Quorn
A Simeon Cobourne brace was enough to see off a determined effort from Shepshed Dynamo in Quorn’s sixth preseason match.
The Reds made a short trip across Charnwood to face a familiar adversary as Dynamo hosted at their Dovecote Stadium. Shepshed should have led as early as the third minute, as confusion reigned in a makeshift defensive unit for Quorn. Callum Burkey fired over from close range though, with an open goal at his mercy.
Dan Wallis, who was sent off when the sides met in April, had to be at his best in the 19th minute to deny Cobourne, who was consistently getting behind defenders and causing problems for Dynamo. There was nothing Wallis could do a few minutes later though as Simeon ran onto a quick free kick and slid the ball past the Shepshed ‘keeper from an acute angle.
Cobourne had the ball in the net again shortly afterwards, turning in Jordan Clarke’s cross, but he was judged to have been millimetres offside. Quorn continued to press for a second, but half time came to the relief of the hosts. The break didn’t change things though, and despite Wallis making an excellent save from Cobourne’s rasping drive, the Reds’ forward was able to win the rebound and stroke home his second of the night.
After controlling much of the opening hour, the final 30 minutes were a much tighter affair. Jowan Partridge headed in a left-wing cross at the far post with 25 minutes to play as Shepshed grew in confidence. Quorn had chances on the break, but couldn’t find a third to kill the tie, and needed a stunning save from Tom Allsopp, with ten minutes to play, to maintain their lead.
Dunkey had two more chances to get on the scoresheet, but dragged one shot wide, and fired another straight at Allsopp. A trialist almost snatched a draw at the death with a well-struck effort that cannoned back off the post. Quorn held on to win the match as they stretched their unbeaten preseason to six matches. OJM CFC are the visitors on Friday night as they will look to end that run at the Stotto Stadium (19:45 KO). Entrance is £5.00, and free for Under 16s.
