REPORT: Quorn 2-1 Bromsgrove Sporting

By James Kendrick

A late Billy Kee goal helped Quorn come from behind to beat Bromsgrove Sporting 2-1 on Tuesday night.

Despite going a goal down in the first half, a second half fightback with goals from Kee and Finn O’Boyle gave them all three points.

The result was Quorn’s first league win in three games and sees them move back up into the top five.

Ryan Beswick made two changes to the side that lost 2-1 at home to Royston on Saturday, bringing himself and Billy Kee into the team to take on Bromsgrove.

The game took a while to get going with both sides looking to settle in and build a head of steam.

But it was the away side who took the lead midway through the first half as Gustavo Sanches pounced on a loose back pass, rounded the keeper and scored to make it 1-0.

After going a goal down, Quorn’s response was pretty good and they pushed forward looking for an equaliser but they struggled to put the ball in the back of the net.

Quorn manager Ryan Beswick has commented before and highlighted again after the game that Quorn need to be more clinical with their chances and even before half time there were chances and goalmouth scrambles that just couldn’t quite go in.

In the second half, Quorn came out much improved and were more clinical in front of goal.

And it took just seven minutes of the second half for Finn O’Boyle to get Quorn level. The ball came across the box and O’Boyle found himself in the right place at the right time to level the game.

After getting the equaliser, there was only one thing on Quorn’s mind and that was getting a winner.

Quorn had a number of chances to win the game through Beswick and Luke Cox among others but it was Billy Kee who got the winner five minutes from time.

A long ball came forward from Jasper Tetlow over the top of the defensive line and the clearance hit Billy Kee on the shoulder and looped over the keeper to make it 2-1 to Quorn.

The home side held out for the last few minutes and took all three points which will give them confidence heading into their big FA Cup tie away at Enfield Town on Saturday.
