REPORT: Quorn 1-2 Royston Town

By James Kendrick

Two second half goals saw Quorn fall to a disappointing 2-1 defeat at home to Royston Town.

Despite taking the lead through Mason Frizelle in the first half, The Methodists lost their third game of the season thanks to second half goals from Kian Harness and Joe Iaciofano.

The victory was Royston’s first league win of the season while Quorn dropped out of the play off places after their second straight league defeat.

Quorn came into the game on a high after their FA Cup win over Kettering last weekend and they had the best of much of the opening stages of the game.

The home side kept getting into dangerous areas but they struggled to find the final pass and they struggled to find the target with the chances that fell to their attacking players.

Quorn did get the breakthrough seven minutes before the interval after Royston struggled to clear a corner and Marvellous Onabirekhanlen headed the ball across goal for Mason Frizelle to head home and give Quorn the lead at the break.

The home side came out the livelier of the two sides in the second half as well and good chances fell to Dennis Digie and Simeon Cobourne but they were unable to convert those or even really test the Royston goalkeeper.

As the second half wore on, Royston grew into the game and managed to pick Quorn off on the counter attack twice to take all three points.

Just after the hour mark, a Royston cross was floated into the box and a missed defensive header saw the ball fall to Kian Harness who rifled home emphatically.

And with just over a quarter of an hour to go the turnaround was complete as Joe Iaciofano got the last touch in the box to put Royston 2-1 up.

Quorn pushed forward in the last ten minutes but struggled to create any clear cut chances and Royston held on to win the game.

Attention for Quorn now turns back to the FA Cup as they travel to National League South side Enfield Town on Saturday in the Third Qualifying Round.
