REPORT: Quorn 1-2 Barwell

Zak Goodson gets Quorn’s first goal of pre-season as he picks up where he left off last campaign.

Quorn’s first pre-season game ended in a 2-1 defeat at home to Barwell writes James Kendrick.

It was a good opportunity to get some minutes into players and in total Quorn used 23 different players during the course of 90 minutes.

Supporters were also able to see their new players in action for the first time with new signings such as Luke Shaw, Ben Blythe and Ethan Bojang getting their first minutes for the club.

Things got off to a good start for Quorn with Zak Goodson picking up where he left off as he slotted the ball into the net during the 12th minute.

But Barwell fought back strongly during the rest of the first half. Having already played their first pre-season friendly last week, there was a bit more sharpness allowing them to get in front before the interval.

Ethan Hill equalised just after the half hour mark for the away side before a Trialist put them in front four minutes before the break.

As is typical in pre-season, the half time interval saw huge amounts of substitutions with Quorn changing ten of their eleven players at the break.

The home side were forced into another change just a couple of minutes into the second half as new signing Lindon Michel pulled up with an injury and had to be replaced by Zak Goodson who had only just come off the pitch.

Quorn did well in the second half and created some good chances but were denied on a number of occasions by Liburd-Hines, the Barwell goalkeeper, who pulled off some terrific saves.

After the game, Quorn manager Ryan Beswick reflected on the game and was pleased with how much he learnt from it.

Quorn now have 10 days before their next pre-season friendly game to have more time to train, get some more players in and work on things before taking on Matlock Town away on Tuesday 14th July.
