REPORT: AFC Sudbury 0-4 Quorn

The Reds picked up where they left off last weekend with another scintillating performance. A second clean sheet away from home showed Quorn’s defensive mettle and goals from Deen Master, Billy Kee, Ryan Beswick and Zak Goodson fired the Methodists to another impressive win.

Quorn were on top throughout the match and Goodson gave Joshua Blunkell an early test, attempting to lob the keeper in the 8th minute. Finn O’Boyle was the next to force the home keeper into action, cutting in off the left and shooting low to Blunkell’s left.

A goal felt inevitable for Quorn and it came in the 18th minute, as Silvio Bello broke down the right and crossed into the middle. Master miss hit his initial effort but kept his composure to slot home his first goal for the Reds at the second attempt.

Beswick brought a good save from the keeper with his direct free kick just before the half hour mark. Blunkell could only parry, but no one had followed in and Sudbury were able to clear. Mason Frizelle burst forward a few minutes later, but his shot from the edge of the box narrowly missed the target.

Goodson thought he scored his third in two games, but his 36th minute effort was ruled out by the Assistant’s flag. Master went in search of his second, as Quorn hit Sudbury on the counter, but his chipped effort sailed over. The Reds finally doubled their advantage in the 41st minute as Kee was on hand to convert O’Boyle’s inviting cross.

Tom Allsopp was called into action for the first time on the stroke of the break, diving full length to his left to maintain the shutout. The Suds offered a little bit of fight to start the second half, but their belief was extinguished in the 50th minute when Beswick was on hand to turn in the rebound as Bello’s effort was saved.

Simeon Cobourne, who missed the first three matches through suspension, looked a constant threat after his half time introduction and brought another save from the overworked Blunkell. The Yellow’s keeper could do nothing in the 56th minute though as Goodson’s well-timed run saw him in one-on-one, curling his shot around Blunkell as the shot-stopper came out to narrow the angle.

The hosts thought they had pulled one back in the 70th minute, but the goal was ruled out for an offside. With the visit of Barwell less than 48 hours away, Quorn wound it down and controlled the remaining 20 minutes at walking pace, conserving their energy for the first of their Leicestershire derbies this season on Bank Holiday Monday.

Whilst the Reds are in blistering form, they will have to remain sharp as they look to avoid disappointment against a Barwell side that have lost three straight since their opening day win at home to St. Ives Town. The match is a 3pm KO at the Stotto Stadium.
