Quorn return to Southern League Premier Central Division action this weekend, when they host Royston Town, for a first ever meeting between the sides. The Reds come into the game after a 2-1 win in the FA Cup against Kettering Town, but having lost their previous league match, 1-0 away to Harborough Town. The Bees scored a stoppage time winner after Quorn had played for 80 minutes with just 10 men.
The Opposition:
Royston Town are yet to win the league, suffering defeats against some of the early pacesetters in Kettering Town, Bishop’s Stortford and Alvechurch. Their have been creditable draws against Redditch United, Banbury United and Needham Market though, but their three points from seven games sees them second from bottom.
The Crows have fared better in the FA Cup though, defeating step four Redbridge 2-1 away from home in the 1st Qualifying Round, and Isthmian Premier Division leaders Brentwood Town 1-0 at home in the 2nd Qualifying Round.
Their former player Chris Watters took over the club as manager in May of 2023 leading the club to back-to-back midtable finishes in the past two seasons. Royston have only picked up one point on their travels so far this season.
Head-to-Head:
Quorn have never played The Crows in a competitive fixture but will play each other twice this season, with Quorn hosting the first meeting at the Stotto Stadium on Saturday (3pm KO).
Last Game:
The Reds come into this fixture hoping that their good form in the cup translates to the league, winning in the 2nd Qualifying Round of FA Cup 2-1 at home against, similarly positioned in the league, Kettering Town. The Goals came from Simeon Cobourne and recent signing Marvellous Onabirekhanlen, who was making his first start.
One to Watch:
Joe Iaciofano will be the Crows main hope of scoring on Saturday after scoring last time out against Needham Market in their 1-1 draw as well as being the clubs joint top goal scorer in the league this season.
Iaciofano may be best known for his time at Oxford City scoring twenty-eight times in sixty-two appearances for the club. He is a product of the Northampton academy making one appearance in League One for the Cobblers.
