Quorn will hope to put their FA Trophy exit behind them when they travel to Greater Manchester in an important NPL clash.
Quorn’s Form:
After an impressive upturn in form, The Reds were on the road again to face Kettering Town for the second time this season in cup competitions. Just like last time, it was The Poppies who progressed but this time 6-2 winners. Jesse Friend impressed with two more goals to his name. Friend has now extended his loan until the end of the year. The Methodists were unbeaten in five between the two matches at Kettering, and are yet to lose when Terell Pennant starts a match.
The Opposition:
The Red Rebels come into this game with an impressive 4-2 league victory over Whitby Town to lift them off the bottom on goal difference. FC United also had a very good run in the FA Cup getting to the Fourth Qualifying Round. Unfortunately, their run was ended in a 6-2 replay defeat at home to local rivals Altrincham. Despite two leagues between them the Red Rebels did well to force the National League side to a replay.
Head-to-Head:
There has been one previous meeting between the sides, an FA Vase 3rd Round match against FC United of Manchester, which was played at Bury’s Gigg Lane home on the 9th of December 2006. Despite being down to nine-men, the highly-fancied hosts had fought their way back to 2-2, and the match looked destined for extra-time. Nigel Julien had other ideas though and scored at the death for a 3-2 win, as the Reds went on to reach the fifth round of the Vase that season, the club’s best ever run in the competition.
One-to-Watch:
Adam Le Fondre is a name that may be familiar to Reds fans. The 39-year-old veteran striker joined FC United of Manchester in 2024 after leaving Scottish side Hibernian. He has been around playing for EFL sides Bolton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Cardiff City, Reading, Rotherham United and Rochdale to name a few. Le Fondre started his career at Stockport County and has even had some spells in Australia and India during his long career. Le Fondre has four goals to his name this term.
