A Bank Holiday treat as The Stotto Stadium hosts the clash between Quorn and Barwell. The Reds are in ‘red hot’ form as they moved up to third place this weekend after a huge, 4-0 win away from home over AFC Sudbury. It’s 10 points from four games for Ryan Beswick’s side as they continue to impress in the clubs first season in step three. A dream starts, he will no doubt be ensuring the team remained focused and grounded to persist clocking up those points as they have been.

The Opposition:

Barwell Football Club is the team travelling to Quorn this Monday for the 3pm kick off. Having only won one of their first four games and losing the other three, the Canaries are likely to be hungry for points to push up the table. Last season the club finished 19th, meaning they were relegated however, due to Farsley Celtic (a village side relegated from step two) being denied a licence by the FA, a spot opened up in step three, leading to a reprieve for Barwell. With a relegation finish last season, The Canaries will hope to capitalise on a second chance and fight for survival.

Their previous fixture came at home to sixth place, Alvechurch. Barwell started the game brightly after Kane Richards put them ahead with a penalty in the 18th minute. However, the lead wasn’t maintained as a 20-yard effort from Alvechurch’s Sam Perry drew the score level on the stroke of half time. A second half Joseph Diego Marquez Espada goal that meant Barwell lost the game 2-1.

Last Game:

Quorn’s latest clash came against AFC Sudbury. It was nothing short of an excellent performance from Ryan Beswick’s team as they managed to walk away with another three points following a spectacular 4-0 win. The three points weren’t the only thing worth celebrating as club captain Reece Fyfe also made his 100th appearance for Quorn. A key part of our league winning squad last season, and a true leader, congratulations to Reece.

Deen Master opened the scoring, bagging his first goal for the club to put Quorn 1-0 up. A pulled back ball from Silvio Bello managed to find Master who found the back of the net in the 18th minute.

Billy Kee was the player to double the lead after he tapped it home on the end of a superb ball across the box from Finn O’Boyle. It was an excellent performance from Quorn as the game reached the half with the Reds 2-0 up, but it could have been more. The team only built on the momentum already gained heading in to the second half as head coach Ryan Beswick put his team 3-0 up and in cruise control. It was a comfortable second half for the Reds as Zak Goodson added to the scoresheet making it 4-0, being the fourth different goal scorer of the game.

A brilliant performance meant the fixture ended 4-0 Quorn. A perfect Saturday for Ryan Beswick and his team, with focus now shifting to Monday as they’ll hope to display a similar showing.

Head-to-Head:

The two sides haven’t featured in the same league in a decade and a half, last meeting back in 2011. Barwell won 3-2 at home on that occasion, snapping a streak of eight straight matches in which the away side won. You have to go back over 22 years to find a home win for the Reds, a 3-2 victory at Farley Way in August of 2003.

One to Watch:

There will be a familiar face returning to the Stotto Stadium on Monday as former Red Tyree Wilson lines-up for Barwell. After joining former Quorn Manager Richard Lavery at Latimer Park last season, Wilson scored twice in 28 matches as he helped the Poppies to a playoff final appearance, and the second round of the FA Cup.

In the 2023/24 season injuries limited Tyree to just 16 appearances for the Reds, but he made an incredible impact in that time, scoring eight times. Despite playing just over 20 minutes in the first two matches for Barwell this season, Wilson already made a mark, scoring the winning penalty in the 91st minute on the opening day as the Canaries defeated St. Ives Town 3-2. Tyree has started the last two matches for Barwell, playing a full match for the first time on Saturday as they lost 2-1 at home to 10 man Alvechurch.
