Quorn enter the Quarter final of the Leicestershire & Rutland County Challenge Cup in good form as they host Aylestone Park.
Quorn’s Form:
The Methodists are coming into this fixture in good spirits after being undefeated in their last five games, including a highly impressive 5-1 win against Bromsgrove Sporting away from home. Last time out the Reds got the better of Redditch United in what was a close encounter, all five goals in the 3-2 win coming in the first twenty-two minutes. Quorn showed impressive defensive resilience to stay on top throughout the game. The Reds will be keen to put their good league form into the cup as they hope to go all the way.
The Opposition:
Aylestone Park currently play their football in Step Five, two divisions below Quorn, however, they’ve been close to promotion in both of their seasons at the level, losing in the playoff final on both occasions. The Park played Daventry Town last time out, losing the game by a single goal conceding in injury time of the first half from Archie May, whilst Captain Corey Armeni was sidelined through suspension. Aylestone, also known as the Reds, come into the match on the back of their worst run in recent memory, losing four straight, including an FA Vase exit to step six Retford United. However, a very tough run of fixtures has seen them face back-to-back matches versus top sides including Nuneaton Town and Histon. Aylestone’s last game in the cup saw a 3-1 win at Leicester Nirvana at the end of October.
Head-to-head:
Quorn and Aylestone Park have not played each other in recent memory.
One to Watch:
Corey Armani is a threat from midfield for Aylestone Park and has scored five goals so far for the Reds. He is also a name familiar to Quorn fans, having come through the junior ranks at Anstey Nomads alongside Jack Samples. Armeni was a thorn in the Reds’ side for many years in the heated rivalry, and now captains the Park. The Reds will have to make sure that an old rival cannot cause problems for them in the start of their cup campaign.
